Sylvester Neal started his career as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He has seen up close the heart ache and devastation drunk driving can cause and understands the great need for highway safety education.
In 2000 while attending a Circle K convention, Sylvester met a remarkable lady, Nancy Klotz, and heard her tell of how her college-age daughter was killed by a drunk driver. Nancy’s story led him to realize that Kiwanis could do something about drunk driving.
As a result, the PNW District has partnered with MADD, PNW Key Club and PNW Circle K to form KFADD (Kiwanis Family Against Drunk Driving) and create a service project that began in November 2002. The District is also working with local police agencies, other non-profit organizations and victims who have come forward to tell distressingly similar stories.
KFADD adopted the mission of MADD, which is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of drunk drivers and prevent under age drinking. KFADD adopted MADD’s Red Ribbon Campaign, which has been in use since 1986. Millions of ribbons have been distributed since that time as a reminder to people about the dangers of drinking and driving.
